This month, Sybil Spurgeon successfully represented a client in his appeal of a disability claim denial by CIGNA.  The client was initially qualified as partially disabled; however, after 24 months the definition of disability changed from unable to perform the duties of his current profession to unable to perform the duties of any profession, a much higher standard.  When the client reached the 24-month threshold, his claim was denied, and disability payments were discontinued.  On appeal, Ms. Spurgeon argued that, based on his medical records, the client’s physical limitations required reduced daily hours, not only in his current occupation, but in any occupation.  The carrier reversed the denial and the client’s full benefits were restored.
